Quartzite

Pure quartzite is typically white or grey, but the presence of different minerals results in a variety of stunning colors and shades.

Durability - Quartzite is a type of hard metamorphic rock that was originally formed from pure quartz sandstone. The sandstone was subjected to high heat and pressure due to colliding and shifting crust plates, transforming it into quartzite.

Aesthetics - Quartzites are quarried from many locations worldwide like other types of stones. However, most of the quartzites available in the US market come from Brazil. Light gray tones with darker, veiny, or cloudy patterns characterize these stones. Additionally, some quartzites present an incredible range of colors. If you are skeptical, you can look at the Quartz showcase.

Maintenance - Although quartzites are hard, they are porous and must be sealed. They do not react with chemicals, so they do not etch like marble but can get stained. Spills should be wiped off quickly.

Hygenic Properties - A well-maintained quartzite surface is one of the most hygienic surfaces to incorporate into your home. Regular cleaning and periodic sealer applications prevent substance penetration and bacterial buildup.

Versatility - Because of its hardness, prehistoric people used it to make stone tools. Today, it is primarily used as a decorative dimension stone, crushed stone in highway construction, and a source of silica for producing silicon and silicon compounds. Quartzite countertops or fireplaces bring unparalleled elegance to our homes.

Value - Working with quartzite requires specific skills and technology, which is much harder than working with granite or quartz. The high cost of quartzite is due to the cost of materials and the extra labor required to work with it. However, a quartzite surface will last long and provide endless visual pleasure if the job is done properly. The resale value of a quartzite investment will depend on the prospective buyer's taste.
